Roald Dahl
Robert Frederick produced a range of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory products. All of which had to be sent to Sir Quentin Blake for approval. He really liked what we had done with the range and sent me a lovely email to thank us. I was the creative director for this project and had fun coming up with the design, liaising with the licensor. We used the concept of the golden ticket through-out the products, with splashes of gold on the envelopes and die-cut cards. I chose a thick matt laminate on the outsides of the products to make them extremely tactile.
"These products look wonderful!
I love how you’ve played with my artwork, good job!"

My role as a designer at Robert Frederick Limited included liaising with the licensor, creating concepts and mood boards which I presented to our clients, then carrying the projects through with my colleagues to final approval. I particularly enjoyed choosing fabrics and wall hangings from the V&A Museum, which I then used to work-up 3 stationery ranges with WHSmiths. It was a fantastic opportunity to visit the V&A and to work-up these concepts with them. They allowed me to use and manipulate any designs featured in the museum. I was able to look through the behind the scenes collections, putting on white gloves to leaf through hand-painted wallpaper by William Morris and Japanese silk.
